One of the most memorable hunts I had last year that opening weekend with Nick. Do you all shoot ducks and geese while youre the hunting swans too? But to me, whether youre sitting in North Dakota or Canada and a flock of pintails start working, or youre sitting down in Mexico, whether absolutely covered, I struggled to think of a flock of birds that look as elegant as pintails when they work. But they were spread out and you watch a group of five and a half is dumping into a bean field, half mile off the road knowing that, you cant really touch them. If nothing else we get a good show. What are habitat conditions like in North Dakota this year and how might if effect hunting? And about that time, flocking mallards swung over the slough and was working around us and I mean, just corkscrewing and coming and getting closer and closer with every pass. We follow the migration starting February in Arkansas up into Nebraska and ending in South Dakota. Theyre still going to want to make that trip. Ramsey Russell: Ive hunted up there at that time of year and its hot. So its hard for us to reach those birds last year. We dont know. What we can do is, to adapt to what we have, what were given. And then the hunting and the hospitality we had there. A few bands yall recovered sometimes in North Dakota and Nick is like, oh I never killed one. So it was definitely a pretty awesome hunt because like I said, Nick was really excited about it. But it was a well-executed plan. We might have weeks where it doesnt get above zero. Typically, when I tell people, bring new boots it should be good, if you need to wear them and pass them in dry field hunting. But that you know really, theres three weeks that are probably prime. Know your pattern, take ethical shots, make clean kills. And depending upon what theyre feeding in or what theyre feeding with, I should say, well target them. And the one that you want is one that might be waiting. Thats a problem. Ive had enough of the not being busy. We did rather well, hunting a little flooded wheat fields, bean fields that were off. I saw it, man. And I said, hey, lets go hunt tomorrow. Hotel reservations and travel itinerariesshould be planned accordingly. I still have some coloration, but where did those birds go? How does it end? And thats a lot of what we have. If the Canadian border opens especially, Im going to get up there to meet with an environmental Canada biologist. But the one thing Ive not heard a lot of that stuff from the tundra, the birds are getting older and so on.
